Corn Chowder

Today has been really low key...so I really don't have much to post, but I have to because it is November and I follow completely arbitrary rules.  Whistle, whistle.  I did make some pretty good corn chowder.  There was a lot of butter.  And bacon.  And heavy cream.  It was wonderful.  My arteries are clogged with corny goodness.  I accompanied it with fresh sour dough bread from the church auction.  If Rumpelstiltskin (did you know Spell Check knows the correct spelling of Rumpelstiltskin?  It doesn't recognize my name, but that it knows?) were to make me an offer for my first born, he would offer me fresh bread.  Or chocolate, probably chocolate.  Yum.  I need chocolate now.
Also, good news!  I figured out what that light switch went to!  (Trying to rearrange that sentence so it doesn't end with a preposition...somehow Josh's snoring is making it difficult, well that is my excuse for lack of good grammar lol).  I didn't even know that there was a light out there.
Yeah, my life is THAT fascinating.  I know you are so impressed.  Tomorrow I will try to think of something better to write, I will also try to use better grammar.  I know you're excited.

A Single Rose

A pretty rose from the bushes outside the house.  Josh picked it for me and put it in my hair :)  When the thorns stuck me I thought it would be pretty in the martini glass.

Saturday (AKA Devoid of Pity Title)

Today has been such fun.  First off, I slept late.  I never thought "late" would be 8:30.  I bet that gets even earlier when kids come on the scene lol.  Sleep is luscious.  When I woke up I smelled food.  For all his many wonderful qualities, Josh does not usually cook, but this morning he made me breakfast.  He did it up right too.  He made biscuits, gravy, eggs, and bacon.  It was wonderful.  Then I cleaned my house.  I actually enjoy cleaning house.  Clean toilets make my life feel more ordered.  Don't ask me why.  Then I went to eat lunch with my friend Bekah.  We hadn't seen each in awhile and had been teasing that we wouldn't be able to recognize one another because it had been so long.

I made a sign, just in case recognition was a problem lol.  She laughed.

After Olive Garden (ahhh, chicken gnocchi soup is Wonderful!), Bekah came to see my house for the first time and that was fun.  Then I hung out with Josh for a little while and we got ready to go out for date night.  We went to Wal-Mart (what, you don't date at Wal-Mart? lol) to fill shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.  It is one of my favorite holiday things to do!  I LOVE to pack the boxes super full and imagine the little kids' faces when they open them up.  I wanted to start the tradition in our little family, so we packed two boxes.  A 2-4 year old girl and a 7-9 year old boy.

I really want to play with these paper dolls.  I probably need to go personally with my box so I can play with the little girl and these dolls.  I've always loved paper dolls.  Plus, there is like 150 different dresses and accessories in this book!  Sweet!

This is Josh's box.  Not quite as over-packed as mine, but just as fun.  Every kid loves Legos and Josh managed to find a little box that builds three different cars.  Such fun!  Even a glow in the dark Batman shirt (and super hero underpants!)!

Then we ate at Chik-Fil-A.  Oh, yum, yum yum.  We could eat at Chik-Fil-A daily.  Then we went to the mall and looked at glasses.  I found a pair I really like but Josh laughed every time he looked at me in them so I couldn't commit.  Then we rented Thor at the Redbox and are watching snug in a jammies at home.  Sigh...a great day if ever there were one.

P.S.  I'll try to figure out how to get my iPhone to send pictures to the computer so I can show you the glasses.

My Little Brother

Today I went to my parents house to load up and take yet another load of stuff to my house.  I swear I think my junk is multiplying.  My little brother took a big load to consignment in his truck.  I had never ridden in his truck so I went along, well, he didn't want to haul all my junk by himself either.  It was then that I realized:  my brother has grown up.  It was a shock.  This sudden cold splash of water.  I opened up the truck door and there was a towel on his seat.  Now, I realize this does not seem like a great testimony to maturity, but I'll explain.  My dad likes to keep things nice.  He HATES for his truck to get dirty.  To keep the seats clean he has a beach towel (my beach towel thank you very much) across the seats.  It is now quite possibly, the most threadbare, sun bleached towel in the state but the molecules that once united to make thread to make the towel still protect the seat.  Now my little bro was...a rough child.  He tore up things just to see if he could fix them, often he couldn't.  We started telling him that one day he would have things and we would come jump on/drill/scratch them.  So seeing him protect something of his own is kinda a big deal.  The second thing was watching him load the truck.  He does it Just like my dad.  The way he loads, the way he mutters about stuff flying out, all of it is a smaller version of my father.  Then, this little kid (I mean he has to be like 6, right, Right???), got in his truck and drove me around, talking about work he wanted to do on it.  I always think of him at this age:

But it turns out he is all grown up.  It's kind of bittersweet.  He's looking at colleges.  He can appreciate the satire of Monty Python.  He can pick me up.  Happy and sad.  He's pretty much the bestest brother a girl could ever hope to have.

This was me getting a rare moment of cuddling just a few days before my wedding.  He's the coolest, especially when he still let's me hug him.

Impulse Buys

I pretty much never have impulse buys but I went to Target and I saw this ornament:

It matches exactly the KitchenAid mixer that is sitting wrapped for my birthday that I might possibly maybe get from my parents for my birthday.  Then I felt bad that Josh wasn't getting an ornament.  So I found him this cutie:

Josh loves Thomas.  I think it's cute.

Now I have to go back to being frugal.  Still glad I got the ornaments though :)
Merry Christmas!  Happy Almost My Birthday!

Kissy Kissy

So something I was watching on tv made me think about how kissing has changed in the movies.  I'm fan of old movies.  Black and whites make my heart happy because they contain some of the best actors and plots (before those plots were re-done and re-done until that poor horse had been beaten to a painful death).  Let's look at some examples.

This is from Roman Holiday.  Classic Audrey Hepburn.  Gregory Peck is a good looking guy too.  They have quite the lip lock going on but somehow it is still chaste.  They aren't eating one another.  Thumbs up.

Here is an even more classic shot:  Rhett and Scarlet.  There is sexiness absolutely oozing out of this shot and yet they aren't losing pieces of clothing.  No doubt that they are into each other, but it conveyed with SO much more class, without losing one iota of emotion.

Next there is this shot from Ghost.  Not nearly so classy.  Seriously, this is probably one of the steamiest kisses in movie history, but I sort of felt like I should avert my eyes.  I thought Patrick Swazye and Demi Moore might want a little privacy.  If my dead husband were phantomly and passionately kissing me I wouldn't want an audience...I'd want a doctor to investigate my precarious mental state.

Finally there are kisses in the realm of the Twilight movies.  Snort.  If you call that kissing.  I call that giving someone a tonsilectomy with no anesthesia, for the kissee or the audience.   WHERE are her pants?!?!  I miss old kisses and old movies.  :(  Classics for the win!  There is no need to show the audience every bit of your anatomy or perform tongue calisthenics to convey ardor.

Of course, there could be this movie kiss...which just falls into a category all it's own.  Yeah...we'll just leave it there.

Halloween

Yesterday was Halloween.  Oh what?  You noticed?  Huh.  I barely did.  I live in the same neighborhood as my boss so I asked him about how many trick-or-treaters to expect.  "Oh man, where you live, I'll bet you get about 30 groups."  So to accomodate all these anticipated treaters Josh and I bought a lot of candy.  A. Lot. Of. Candy.  My mom has taught me to WAY overprepare for how many people I am expecting.  Halloween night comes.  I set out the candy.  Looks nice huh?  Yeah, all ready for the treaters.  We waited and waited.  We had Maybe FOUR groups.  I still have Every Single One of the chocolate bars (well, Josh might have had a couple).  Feel free to come post-trick-or-treat at my house!

P.S.  It is November which means it is some blogging thing where you are supposed to post for thirty straight days.  I hear you laughing, saying I have posted in about six weeks.  In my defense, I moved and went on a honeymoon, and, well, got blogging lazy, BUT I intend to regale you with the fascinating details of my life all month!  I know you've missed me ;)
